To and from NYC I listened to The Lies My Teacher Told me. Christopher was supposedly a Jewish convert to Catholism and when he met the "native savages" recited a speech that claimed the land for the king of Spain. These natives had the choice of renoucing their religion (spirits in everything) and accepting the king's god or be killed on the spot. An interesting book - I'd read it so you can skim through some of the more drawn out lectures.
