Honey and Cinnamon for Weight Loss: The Claim

The formula for honey and cinnamon for weight loss is ubiquitous.

  1. Use honey and cinnamon in a 1:2 ratio (one part cinnamon, two parts honey)
  2. Put the cinnamon in a cup or bowl.
  3. Boil one cup of water.
  4. Pour water over the cinnamon and let it steep for 30 minutes.
  5. Once the liquid has cooled, add honey. Always add honey to the cooled liquid – hot liquid will destroy the enzymes in the raw honey.
  6. Drink half of the resulting “tea” before going to bed. Cover and refrigerate the rest.
  7. Drink the other half first thing in the morning.
  8. Do not add anything to the recipe. Only drink on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning and right before bed.

Typical claims of benefits that you will find for drinking this concoction include:

  1. Inches will be lost before you will notice the scale creeping downward.
  2. The cinnamon and honey cleanses parasites, fungus and bacteria out of the digestive tract.
  3. You may experience side effects due to the release of toxicity.
  4. You may experience increased energy, better sex drive and a better mood.
  5. The formula will block your body from gaining fat.

To the frustrated dieter looking for a panacea, the honey and cinnamon for weight loss cure might seem like a dream come true, but does it work? Take a look at each of the ingredients and their potential benefits on health.

Healthy Breakfast Recipe

Steel cut oatmeal (must be steel cut variety)
frozen wild blueberries
slivered almonds
cinnamon

Prepare oatmeal as instructed on container. During the last few minutes of cooking, lightly toast slivered almonds in toaster oven or in a pan on the stove top. While the almonds are toasting, add frozen blueberries to the oatmeal, stir. Toss the toasted almonds and cinnamon into the oatmeal. VoilĂ ! A healthy, delicious and filling way to start your day. Be good to your body today.

You can determine the quantities of the ingredients according to taste. I usually prepare a 1/4 cup oatmeal, 1/4 berries. 1/8 cup nuts and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon.

Santa Came to Town

The Blogson didn't wake me up as early as he used to, but nonetheless I was in a deep slumber when I felt a tug and heard Merry Christmas. A bright, sunny morning on the Vineyard. The Bloghusband had his traditional cinnamon rolls in the oven while we three exchanged gifts. Even with "Christmas Lite" this year, we all did pretty well!

Quiet Before the Storm

The aroma of Sunday dinner fills the house, Giants and Steelers on TV, and everyone is just chillin' before what will undoubtedly be an epic week.  The global financial markets are fragile and volatile, as is the presidential campaign.  Anything can happen this week.  Perhaps the CIA will even find Osama Bin Laden.  Wouldn't that turn the political climate around!?  Well, always searching for a good menu, I'm going to start making a point of keeping track of some of my favorites.  Here's tonight's:
-sliced honey crisp apples with cinnamon sugar
-roast loin of pork marinated in bourbon, apricot jam and fresh herbs
-butternut squash and caramelized onions with sage, Parmesan and balsamic reduction
-Joe's Stone Crab hash brown potatoes
-Neiman Marcus's $250 chocolate chip cookies
Happy Nesting!

**UPDATE**
Epic fail on the meat and squash.  I can toss those recipes.
